Keep it Lite at Lunch – It’s not just what you eat it’s how you pack it. All week we will weigh the garbage from lunch. Our goal is to reduce what we throw away throughout the week. Students who bring a waste-free lunch will receive a ticket for Friday’s raffle of a green prize.
Show the earth you care by what you wear. Wear green to school on Wednesday!
Recycling: Take a field trip to a recycle center without ever leaving school. Students will watch a video presentation and learn what really gets reused at a recycling center.
Terracycle Brigade: Student volunteers will package recycled chip bags for shipment to Terracycle.
Trivia: Learn fun, earth friendly facts each week with the morning announcements.
Get creative: Design a logo for the new biodegradable lunch box to be sold at Hoffman on walk in day next year. Submissions due Wednesday, April, 21st. Winner announced on Friday.
Athletic Shoe Recycling
Waste Free Lunch
REUSE - A - SHOE
It is time to recycle those worn-out athletic shoes. Henking – Hoffman schools will be participating in Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program in partnership with the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County. Athletic shoes can be sent in starting Monday April 21st.
Please note:
DO NOT include shoes with metal eyelets, zippers, batteries, cleats or spikes

WASTE FREE LUNCH
We hope that families will send their children with a waste free lunch the week of April 21 thru 25th. We will be weighing the lunchroom trash everyday during that week to see if we can reduce how much trash is collected.
Here are five simple ways to pack a waste free lunch:
REUABLE carrier (cloth bag or lunch box)
REUSABLE food containers
THERMOS for drinks
CLOTH NAPKINS to wash and reuse
UTENSILS to wash and reuse
