April is Earth Month at Henking The Green Team has great green projects going on throughout the month of April. We’re observing Earth Day (Tuesday, April 22) to it’s fullest by extending it to include the whole month of April. Here’s what’s on our agenda: *WASTE-FREE WEDNESDAY- Every Wednesday in April is a Waste-Free Wednesday. Please see the handout your child brought home from school on how to create a waste-free lunch or visit wastefreelunches.org or the henkinghoffmanpta.org. And as always, try to provide your child’s snack in a reusable container too. *SNEAKER DRIVE - Our used sneaker drive is now underway. Please send in old sneakers during the entire month of April. They can be deposited in the bin outside of the Learning Center at Henking. SWANCC will send the shoes collected to Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program. Your old treads will be shredded and will eventually become a basketball court, track or outdoor playground. *CAPS COLLECTION - We are collecting all plastic bottle caps. Please send in caps from such items as: water bottles, 2-liter soda bottles, shampoo, ketchup, etc… We will be sending caps to the Aveda company who will in turn recycle them and make new plastic caps out of them for their products. This is a great, easy way for kids to recycle. *TREE-DEDICATION - Henking School has received a tree in celebration of the successful sale of Reusable Green Shopping Bags. We will have a tree dedication ceremony on Friday, April 25 (Arbor Day). Each class will have representatives participating in the ceremony.
