Summary of Book Fair Events and Programs
|
Classroom Preview |
As always, students will get a chance to preview the book fair with their class. Parents are invited to join their child and shop with them on Wednesday, November 3rd. More information and times to follow in your child’s backpack or classroom newsletter.
|
Vote For Books |
Over the weeks leading up to the Book Fair students will have 3 different books read to them. They will then vote for the book they like most. The winning book will be announced and will be available for purchase at the Book Fair!
|
Teacher Wish Lists |
When visiting the Book Fair there will be an opportunity to buy a book for your child’s classroom that each teacher has requested and put in their “wish basket”. Teachers will preview the Book Fair and offer their recommendations for good books for your child’s age group.
|
Pizza Dinner |
On Wednesday evening, join other Henking families for pizza and entertainment from Magic by Randy from 5:45-7:15pm. There will be two seatings and shows: 5:45pm and 6:30pm. Don’t forget to save some time for shopping at the Book Fair.

Grand Persons Night |
For this event, now in its 4th year, we are encouraging children to bring a Grandparent (or someone who fills that role) to the Book Fair on Thursday from 5:00-7:00pm. This is a great way for your child to spend some quality time with that special person in their lives. There will be story time with Henking’s LRC Director – Mrs. Davidson.

ONE FOR BOOKS
|
We are so excited to be bringing back the One for Books program as a part of our book fair this year. Last year Henking School participated and it was a great success. Students can donate loose change and the total collected is matched by Scholastic dollar for dollar. All of the money collected goes directly to purchasing more books for our school. In addition, Scholastic will match the monetary donations raised with a donation of up to one million books to three non-profit organizations dedicated to helping kids in need. They include Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc., Kids in Need Foundation and Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.
Our students can be heroes. Just by collecting loose change through the One for Books program they can make a huge difference by providing books to a worthy cause. As part of “Be a Henking Star” and Character Counts, we urge you to take this opportunity to have your child earn the loose change by doing a good deed or chore around the house. Please have your child bring in the loose change to the Learning Resource Center and they will receive a special “Henking Star” One for Books sticker. They will also be able to enter their name into the One for Books weekly raffle.
